What is Lexi?
Lexi is a legal research assistant that helps you find relevant provisions across Indian legislation in seconds, not hours. Instead of manually browsing through lengthy Acts on India Code, you simply ask a question in everyday language — and Lexi delivers a clear, cited answer.
Whether you're preparing for a hearing, drafting a legal opinion, or advising a client, Lexi helps you quickly locate the exact sections, clauses, and schedules you need, backed by links to the original source text and official PDFs.
Who Is It For?
Lexi is designed for:
- Practicing Advocates — Quickly find provisions relevant to your case without spending hours on India Code or legal databases.
- Law Students — Research Acts and understand legal provisions with clear, structured explanations and direct source links.
- Legal Researchers — Cross-reference provisions across Central and State Acts efficiently.
- In-house Counsel — Get fast answers on regulatory and compliance questions backed by statutory text.
What Legislation Is Covered?
Lexi's knowledge base currently includes:
- Central Acts — All Central Acts published on India Code, including the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Constitution of India, Companies Act, IT Act, Consumer Protection Act, and thousands more.
- State Acts — Legislation from all Indian states and union territories — covering land revenue, municipal governance, state-specific regulations, and more.
We're actively working to add Supreme Court Reports and other legal databases, so you'll soon be able to research case law alongside statutes.
How Does It Work?
Using Lexi is as simple as having a conversation:
- Ask your question — Type naturally, just as you would ask a colleague. For example: "What are the grounds for anticipatory bail?" or "Explain Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act."
- Get a cited answer — Lexi finds the most relevant sections across all covered Acts and presents a concise answer with numbered citations.
- Verify the source — Click any citation to read the exact provision from the original Act. View it as formatted text or in the official PDF — so you can verify before you cite.
- Acts in regional languages are automatically made searchable in English, while the original text is preserved for reference.
Why Trust Lexi?
Unlike general-purpose AI tools, Lexi is purpose-built for Indian legal research:
- Source-backed — Every answer is grounded in actual legislative text. No hallucinated provisions or fabricated section numbers.
- Transparent citations — You can always click through to read the original Act text yourself. Lexi is a research aid, not a replacement for your judgment.
- Up-to-date — The knowledge base is sourced from India Code and updated as new legislation is published.
- Private & secure — Your conversations are encrypted and accessible only to you. We use passwordless sign-in (email OTP) so there are no credentials to leak.
What Lexi Is Not
Lexi is a research assistant, not a substitute for legal advice. While it helps you find and understand statutory provisions faster, every answer should be independently verified before being relied upon in any legal proceeding. Always apply your professional judgment.
